NPO Two Sisters:
|
Two Sisters is the brainchild of Patrick Thibedi.
The charity, based in north-east South Africa, supports orphans of the AIDS epidemic that is devastating much of the African continent. Two Sisters started almost by accident... Patrick, a political prisoner of the apartheid regime, was released from Robben Island in 1992.
In prison he dreamed of his release and looking after the community and meeting the needs of his people.
He settled in Mganduzweni, a beautiful but poor area, in the hills outside White River - nestling at the foot of Legogot Mountain.
A neighbor in the village died and left two daughters. In 1999 Patrick and his wife fostered the two sisters. With the increase in the AIDS pandemic in South Africa and the increasing number of orphans this number gradually grew... Today Patrick has approximately 200 children in his care.
He has donated his original home to Two Sisters for a drop-in care centre.
From donations received Two Sisters has also commenced:
- A Play area for children. Two Sisters purchased a plot of land near the main building. This has been walled and fenced for security, and contains jungle gyms and a netball pitch.
- A Soccer ground nearby for the boys.
Aims and Objectives:
- Selection of suitable foster parents and homes.
- Home-based care for orphans.
- Pre & post-test counseling for HIV status.
- Peer counseling for those affected by HIV/AIDS and its consequences.
- Advocacy and lobbying on behalf of those affected and infected by HIV/AIDS.
- Spiritual care and Bible Teaching.
- Fund Raising.
Mission Statement:
- Two Sisters is an established care centre for children orphaned through the AIDS pandemic. Our aim is to continue to develop and expand the drop-inn centre established in 1999, making it a flagship in the Mganduzweni Trust Area and to set standards for others to follow.
We deliver day to day care of orphans, whose parent(s) have died of HIV/AIDS or related illnesses, and the provision of foster homes where necessary. We endeavor to care for children as soon as they become vulnerable.

NGO The Education for Development Foundation (EDF)
|
The role of the EDF in Thailand is specialized as an educational foundation for under-privileged children. More than 90 percent of fund is used for poor children who do not have opportunities to study, rather than for poor children who have good grade.
Internationally Thailand is categorized as a developing country and has been economically growing in South East Asia. However, the main area of Northeast Thailand remains undereducated, compared to other parts in the country. This area is the strategic niche for Minsai in Japan, incorporated with the EDF in Thailand to step in and provide opportunities for projects for educational development. In the mean time, Thailand has been upgraded to be the center of funding for other neighboring countries such as Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. As he mentioned, no single country can be totally self sufficient. Even in a developed country like Japan, it is necessary to help other Asian countries to grow together, similar to those in European Union countries.
EDF History and Mission
Poverty means not just a lack of money but a lack of opportunities. Many children have to leave schools and find their way in the workforce in order to support their families. Without proper education, the quality of rural human resources will be less competitive in the future.
